Party Animals
Party Animals is a series of illustrations that I am working on in my leisure time. So far they feature an ostridge, a giraffe and a black rhino. The idea is to select an animal and then create a character for that animal that has human traits that would reflect the animal's natural behaviour in some way. Every party animal also has his or her own personality.
The images were first drawn and shaded in pencil using images of animals and human poses as reference. The pencil drawings were then scanned and imported into photoshop where, using layers set to multiply, they were coloured. Please see the image discriptions for more information about each character.
Also known as "that bird with the legs", this creature is mostly nomadic and lives in groups of 5 to 100, usually led by a "top hen" called Heather. The Lostrich has been known to swallow rocks, an act known as "dieting", it is thought that this reduces the appetite and helps the bird "keep in shape". Does not like to be tied down and will wander around, never staying in the same place too long. The Jerkraffe cannot stand to be in the same company for extended periods of time and tends to mix up its social circles often, eventually this leads to the Jerkfaffe becoming ever more solitary as its friends and family distance themselves due to its impersonal nature. Not territorial but will but heads with anyone who interferes with its romantic interests. Does not stick its
The Black Rhino is one of Africa's most illusive creatures, it is rarely seen at parties, or at all. Very shy but extremely quick to anger and it never stays in one place for long. Makes excellent belts and handbags and secretly distributes illegal aphrodisiacs in East Asia.
